Continuing Professional Development and Compliance

In partnership with Maggie Heath of Rosette CPD, Bowen Dental Engineering supplies high-quality training and compliance services to your practice.

Your staff are your greatest asset and your biggest investment. Good quality continuing professional development (continuing professional development) is essential to delivering safe, high-quality care to the highest standards.

A programme of CPD also gives your staff an investment in the practice, allowing them to build skills and enjoy career progression.

Training for healthcare practices and care staff is covered by a number of UK legislations, sector guidance and standard documents and protocols. Keeping up to date with it can feel like a full-time job.

Professional training and compliance services show your patients that they can have confidence in your practice and its care standards; a priceless asset in NHS and private care providers.

High Quality Training from an Experienced Trainer

Maggie Heath has more than a decade’s experience in health and safety training, and has been a trained first aider for more than 25 years. Her courses are up-to-date, comprehensively researched, and engaging.

Maggie runs training courses across the health care sector, but specialises in providing training to dental practices.

Maggie can also carry out compliance visits to ensure that your practice is fully compliant with the latest legislation and guidance.

Comprehensive Training for all Medical Staff

Rosette CPD provide a suite of eight courses. Each one provides comprehensive, verifiable and certificated training in an area of vital importance to health care professionals. All courses are tailored to the needs of your staff and your premises:

Medical Emergencies, Airway Management, CPR, and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) training.

This course will equip your staff to safely deal with eight medical emergencies, the majority of which have the potential to be life threatening.

After completing the course your staff will be able to assess and treat acutely sick patients, and your practice’s emergency medication and equipment will be checked and audited to ensure full regulatory compliance. All of Maggie’s courses ensure that you comply with the legal and regulatory obligations covered.

This course includes hands-on CPR practice with adult, child and baby resuscitation manikins as recommended for all clinical staff by the Resuscitation Council (UK).

Under General Dental Council (GDC) enhanced CPD rules, you must have a minimum of 10 hours training in medical emergencies in every CPD cycle. Staff should take medical emergencies training every year.

This course meets the GDC mandatory requirement that registrants must, “be trained in dealing with medical emergencies, including resuscitation, and possess up to date evidence of capability,”

Infection Control and Prevention

Infection control is a cornerstone of all health care and training in it is a necessity for GDC registrants.

Rosette CPD’s training will keep you up to date in this Health and Social Care Act 2008 Regulated Activity (2014). The Care Quality Commission (CQC) can refuse registration and even prosecute practices for failure to meet infection control standards.

The course will ensure that your practice and staff can meet the requirements of the Government’s HTM 01-05: Decontamination in primary care dental practices. You will also learn what the CQC expecting of you.

The course also covers the importance of cross infection processes for pathogen control; decontamination; cleaning and hygiene (including hand hygiene); exposure to blood-borne viruses; infection risk reduction, and much more. A hand hygiene practical with UV light is included, alongside other relevant topics such as, waste disposal, and the use of sharps.

Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults

Safeguarding is vital in all health care sectors.

After Rosette CPD’s training you and your staff will have a full understanding of the responsibilities of every member of your team, and all external agencies that may be involved with safeguarding.

The course discusses how to recognise and report abuse, and where to obtain practical guidance and advice. Real-life examples and scenarios help to bring the training to life, and will inform you on all your legal and regulatory responsibilities.

Fire Awareness and Fire Marshal Training

Your practice must be a safe place for anyone who enters it: patients, staff, contractors, visitors. Rosette CPD’s fire training will give you the knowledge to ensure that it is.

The course covers your practice’s legal responsibilities under Fire Reform Safety Order 2005 (and all other relevant legislation).

Alongside a good practical guide to fire safety, the sessions include practical demonstrations with fire extinguishers so your team will be confident in their ability to respond, with the right equipment, to emergencies.

After the course your staff will be able to recognise and implement suitable fire precautions. Your designated fire marshals will understand their responsibilities, and be able to carry out a fire risk assessment

Mental Capacity and Dementia

All healthcare staff must have a good working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (2005). This legislation is designed to protect and empower those who aren’t able to make all decisions for themselves.

Rosette CPD’s Mental Capacity and Dementia training will ensure that you have the knowledge to ensure that any patient can use your practice safely and with dignity.

Your staff will learn what the principles of the Mental Capacity Act are, understand capacity assessments and the term ‘best Interests’, and be able to identify who can make decisions on behalf of patients, and who can be appointed to assist them.

Health and Safety with Manual Handling

Every employer must ensure that their employees have the information and skills to safely handle the full potential physical demands of their work.

Rosette CPD’s Health and Safety with Manual Handling course will keep you up to date with legal obligations for health and safety and manual handling. This engaging course will also give your team great practical advice to improve their own manual handling skills.

There are very real benefits to this training: a common reason for early retirement amongst dentists is back pain, and most will suffer from muscular skeletal disorders during their careers. Rosette CPD’s expert ergonomic assessment of your chair and instrument set-up can help take the pain out of your working day.

Legionella and COSHH

The use of hot and cold-water systems in dental practices makes the water-borne, potentially fatal legionella bacterium a particular concern. Your practice must follow the right procedures and be able to show evidence of them. The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) apply in this area, and Rosette CPD’s Legionella and COSHH course will give you all the advice you need for legal compliance and patient safety.

Information Governance & GDPR

Data security and confidentiality are big concerns for all your patients.

Rosette CPD’s training will advise you on what you have to do, and the best practices you should be following. The fourth of the GDC’s nine principles for dental professionals is to maintain and protect patients’ information.

All records, paper and electronic, must be treated with care; personal information must be protected; confidentiality and data protection are vital. Information governance must be regularly assessed, with annual training to keep you up to date.

GDPR (the General Data Protection Regulations) apply to everyone. Medical records are especially sensitive and there are serious penalties for breaches of data security.

Compliance Services

As well as training staff in dental practices and other healthcare settings, Maggie Heath is also a specialist compliance consultant.

A full, thorough and robust compliance assessment visit will assess your status against the demanding standards of statutory regulatory bodies such as the CQC. You will then be given an action plan to help you reach the required standards and to be fully compliant.

Bespoke work and targeted help can focus on particular areas of compliance concern. The aim of all Rosette CPD visits is to see that your practice surpasses minimum standards and can show your patients that you take their safety very seriously.
